If you are an adult and you have decided to get circumcised, the need to effectively prepare for the operation must not be underestimated. Proper planning helps in a major way to ensure that both the procedure and healing process are smooth. The good news is that Ontario circumcision surgery is not a major operation and the healing time expected is also short.

The aim of the surgery is to remove the foreskin or simply the skin that covers the tip of a penis. The surgeon will gently pull the foreskin forward before trimming it and getting the edges stitched. While the majorities of kids and teens get circumcised because of religious or hygiene reasons, adults will mainly choose to get cut for aesthetic reasons or with the hopes of treating concerns like phimosis, which prevent the foreskin from rolling back.

When preparing for a procedure, the first thing you need to do is inform your doctor about any medicines or natural products you are taking. Some adjustments may be necessary if what you are using can increase your risk of a slow response to anesthesia or profuse bleeding. You should consult with your primary doctor if you are under medication like aspirin, Clopidogrel, warfarin or other blood thinners. In this case, it will be necessary to stop the intake for several days before the procedure.

Just like when getting prepared for any other kind of surgery, you must not eat or drink for about six hours before your session. Normally, surgeons allow patients to take a few sips of water if they will be put under a general anesthesia. What you should know is that any solid food within your system during a surgery can endanger your life.

Adults and teens should shave their pubic hair days before the operation. It is also important to effectively clean the pubic area before you show up for treatment. In addition, invest in tight briefs that you can wear after surgery to secure the dressing in place as you leave the hospital. Such briefs would also come in handy before the soreness and the swelling subsides.

If you smoke, any doctor will recommend that you quit for good. At the very least, you should not smoke for about two weeks to your circumcision operation. Smoking interferes with the healing process and this can prolong your recovery by causing unexpected bleeding. Also avoid taking any alcohol for about 48 hours to a procedure. Alcohol consumption dehydrates the body and also toy with the effectiveness of the anesthesia.

A general anesthesia will knock you out during surgery. Its effects may still linger within your system hours after you are allowed to go home. It is hence crucial to have someone that can drive you to your house. Resting for a few days would also be good, though you can head back to work immediately if need be. You will be offered pain medication to help with the pain and discomfort you may experience during the first few days.

There are numerous benefits allied with being circumcised. The operation will keep health concerns like phimosis and balanitis at bay. You will also be at a reduced risk of contracting HIV infections. It is also worth mentioning that it will be easier to effectively clean the circumcised penis and you can forget the hassles of trying to ensure that you are not at risk of suffering from bacterial infections.
