Reading the scripture is not an obligation but something you do in joy and happiness. You trust it as a mean by which God convicts, pursues, and draws. Standing in front of the church and reading the Bible means standing in his place and proclaiming his words. And since his words are very important, many members of the church have established a ministry that involved in scripture readings.

This kind of ministry is composed of individuals who are geared and well trained to preach the passage. There are many things to keep in mind when you teach those who are willing to join the ministry. It serves as a guideline in reading a scripture in public places. This also assumes that you are prepared before reading it.

The first thing to consider is to understand the passage. Everyone should learn the appropriate tone, the purpose, and the genre for which it was made. Make sure to have a comprehension of the true meaning of this passage. Try to determine whether the passage is a persecution, a meditative that reflects on a certain pain, or a poetic one.

If a person has been assigned a certain passage, at least spend a few time to read it to ensure you learn everything. If this is something which is not familiar to you and has a hard time understanding it, it might be useful in reading the passage in other translations or research about it. If still doubtful, then ask anyone who is well experienced.

Once you understand certain things, you have to practice it. As you preach it, you try to understand its natural flow to ensure you learn the best ways in pronouncing the words. And because you will be preaching aloud, make sure to practice it loudly.

As you continue practicing, learn the words and phrases you need to highlight, look for natural places to pause and place where you need to decrease or increase volume. Your job is to comprehend what is in the scripture in a certain way that helps to understand without drawing attention. Be sure to practice those hard words so you will never hesitate to use them during services.

Make sure to prepare everything before the service. The word of God highly deserves all your efforts. If you are stumbling and halting and even mispronouncing the words, then you are not serving your sisters and brothers well. As you see, the bible is the foundation truth that teaches everyone the history of everything in this world.
