To circumcise or not to circumcise a male infant is a discussion that has garnered a lot of opposing views from parents world wide. Baby Circumcision Ontario is the excision of the hood of skin, otherwise known as the foreskin, covering the head of the penis.Infant circumcising is typically done around 10 days of the new born life.

In essence, this exercise typically involves removing the foreskin or glans, which a baby born is usually naturally born with. Therefore, during the process or operation, this foreskin of the penis is usually removed surgically, thus exposing the glans. The procedure is usually, more often than not, performed in the very first weeks following the birth, preferably three or even two.

Some scientifically validated reasons are that circumcised babies have less probability of contracting urinary tract infections as opposed to uncircumcised ones. Another scientifically proven reason is that the incidence of infection and transmission of sexually transmitted diseases was significantly lower in circumcised males later in life, including HIV.However supporting data has still not been sufficient to push doctors and other medical personnel to recommend that every male child be circumcised. Hygiene has also been sited as a reason for the procedure as it is easier to keep the penis clean after circumcision as opposed to while the foreskin is intact.

Religious reasons are a strong motivation for some, as many live by doctrines passed on in their religious communities for centuries, based on laws and commands found in the Hebrew bible. It is especially common amongst Jewish and Islamic faithful for male infants to be circumcised on thee 8th day of life.

Another thing that is worth noting is the particular time that the circumcision exercise should be carried out. Most of the doctors usually recommend the exercise to be undertaken in the first days after delivery. Other medics however recommend the exercise to be undertaken two to three weeks after the child is born. In most instances, since many babies are today born in hospitals, the process is performed within the first 48 hours after birth.

Many questions usually abound, especially regarding how the excruciating pain is usually managed, during the operation. In essence, drugs called anesthetics are usually administered, and their job is to minimize the levels of pain to the baby, throughout the procedure. They can be in the form of topical creams, or even injections usually under the penis base.

Penile damage is another great fear that people have raised with some raising concern about wrong healing after the procedure, or a botched circumcision altogether that could require reconstructive surgery. Statistically however these are risks that are highly improbable . More likely risks are infection especially as a result of improper care post circumcision or bleeding complications. Another common invalidated reason is the claim that it reduces future sensitivity of the penis during sexual intercourse, perhaps this as well is more from a point of fear than fact.

The doctor may decide to delay performing the procedure on the baby or even chooses to not perform it completely, based on various reasons. The first factor is if the child was born prematurely, or is also medically unstable. Additionally, if the baby was born with any physical abnormality especially with his reproductive organ which calls for surgical corrections, then baby circumcision will have to be delayed or even foregone for some time.
