The state of Illinois is considered as an open state. This basically means that the residents of Illinois have the freedom to access any of their personal documents. Illinois wedding records are among the documents that the residents can access anytime if they have a need for it.

Unlike other states, Illinois marriage records are not available at the office of the Department of Health. One has to get it from the office of the county clerk where it was originally registered. The state office can provide you information as to where to request the document. A $5 verification fee has to be paid when the county is unknown and another separate processing fee has to be paid when requesting it at the county office. It can take a few days before the results can be obtained especially if you have no idea where to get the document. This has been addressed when the Internet was used to deliver such information.
