In vitro fertilization or IVF is an assisted reproduction technique. It involves fertilizing multiple ova in a Petri dish and inserting embryos into the womb. This technique can be used by women who are unable to conceive naturally. To complete the procedure, doctors firms inject hormones into the body of a patent to increase the production of eggs.

Prior to retrieving ova from your ovaries, your doctor will prescribe an injection of a medicine that ripens developing ova and starts the ovulation process. The right timing is essential for this procedure to succeed. Your doctor will carry out a blood test or perform an ultrasound to ensure that your eggs are at the right growth stage prior to retrieving them.

To carry out in vitro fertilization, your follicles will be located using an ultrasound and a hollow needle will be used to remove the ova. This technique can be completed within a thirty minute to one hour time frame. After the retrieval of ova, they will immediately be put in a Petri dish that has organic material in it. This will be followed by the artificial introduction of the sperm from a donor or your partner.

Fertilized eggs are cultured for three to five days. If these eggs, which are referred to as embryos after demonstrating at least six to eight cell reproduction cycles, one or a number of them will be implanted into your uterus. This procedure is completed easily and faster than retrieving eggs. Your doctor will insert a catheter through your birth canal and cervix and into your womb, to deposit the embryos.

To increase the chances of a woman conceiving, doctors usually transfer 3 or 4 embryos into her womb. However, this increases the chances of a woman having multiple babies. After this procedure is complete, patients are supposed to stay in bed for a few hours. They can leave the health clinic 4 to six hours later. Doctors usually perform pregnancy tests on their patients 2 weeks after the assisted reproduction procedure.

When a married couple opts to use in vitro fertilization, at least one of them or both become biological parents. In a situation where the two of you are infertile, you can still use this procedure to have a child. You can also use this procedure to overcome female infertility if your doctor has diagnosed you with a problem such as endometriosis.

Women who have conditions that affect their fallopian tubes or ovulation can also benefit from using in vitro fertilization. This technique is also an ideal option for women who are not able to conceive because of the low sperm count of their partners or the inability of their sperm to penetrate the cervical mucus. This procedure is also ideal for women who have tried other assisted reproduction procedures such as taking fertility pills and undergoing tubal reversal surgery but failed to succeed.

It is advisable for you to visit an IVF clinic that has achieved high success rates. Ensure that you get to know about the birth rate of patients who have undergone the procedure at the treatment centre and how many of them gave birth to twins. You should also inquire about service fees and if the clinic allows patients to donate their eggs
