Which Parenting Books Are The Best

There are many factors to consider when seeking the best parenting books. I've been reading parenting books for forty-some years. I must say that the best sellers, which are the ones that are marketed most successfully, are not always the superior parenting books for assisting parents in raising their children.

One highly important aspect of the very best parenting books is that they're written by people who have experience, meaning people who've raised at least a few children of their own and checked out the parenting techniques they are recommending. Many writers of parenting books, however, base their writing more on their professional expertise or their formal education, for example, medical training. Formal training like this typically passes on any faulty knowledge from previous generations of experts. I have been personally subjected to some of this faulty knowledge, namely, with the expert advice that temper tantrums are unavoidable with raising children and that the best thing to do is ignore them. I followed this expert advice until I learned with my fifth baby that it wasn't valid. (Every one of my first five children had thrown tantrums, but none of my last eight did.)

Another trademark of best parenting books is their equality of respect afforded to all members of families that access their advice-in other words, the advice is egalitarian and does not favor one group over another (children, parents, fathers, or mothers). In addition, great parenting books should make respectful approaches to their readers and not have You parents are the dummies and we are the experts kind of attitudes. There should be no talking down to their readers.

The very best parenting books will all use plain language. Their authors will not need to impress their readers with their education and their ability to use many-syllable words. The content of their parenting advice will be impressive in and of itself because it will be good advice. This advice will consist of doable, workable, and easy-to-use techniques which will make sense to the readers because they will be based on common sense. The very best parenting books will also contain the largest amount of useful and helpful advice.

Another aspect of the very best parenting books is that they should be entertaining. They should be interlaced with real-life parenting examples to reinforce the concepts being taught. Any writers of parenting books who have raised their own children should be capable of thinking of entertaining and helpful examples to enrich their parenting advice and render it more memorable. Speaking from the perspective of an experienced parent, I think these are the most important things about the best parenting books.
